Workshop Topics

The workshop topics are divided into five sections. Since the theme of the congress is “Looking to the Future through Semiotics” the papers to be sent must be related to at least one of the main topics given below. In the first title, the basic science fields of which the general framework is given and semiotic studies associated with any of the sub-disciplines related to these fields, in the second title, studies on the developmental process of semiotics on a general or country basis, in the third title, studies on semiotic theory and theorists who contribute to the theory, and in the fourth title, semiotic studies on the problems encountered will be taken into account.

  1. General semiotics and the fields that semiotics are related to. What will be semiotic studies and subfields of semiotics as a theory of signification, and the future approaches of these fields?
  2. Term problems in semiotics. Terms in semiotics, which are developing every day, are constantly being added. It will be difficult to find equivalents for these terms in other languages. Considering that semiotics is studied in all countries, for example, will it be necessary to find the Turkish equivalent of a special term used in Indian semiotics? How should a semiotic term made in Arab countries be found in a semiotic dictionary in France?

Do Turkish researchers only need to translate Western-sourced semiotic terms into Turkish? To what extent can be producing semiotics with these terms be considered as doing semiotics in Turkish? We expect Turkish researchers to present papers on these issues. It would be appropriate for invited speakers to make speeches on these topics.

  1. Where should semiotics be taught? In institutes, university departments, research centers. What are the functions and studies of the important centers established in the world about semiotics?

There are also international, regional or country-based semiotics-related institutions, organizations, associations and laboratories in the world. What are the activities of these associations and their possible future goals?

What kind of problems are solved in the semiotics projects carried out in the countries.

  1. Persistence of theories in semiotics. To date, many theories and approaches have been developed about semiotics. Can these theories be permanent in the fields of semiotics in the future? Are the existing semiotic theories sufficient to solve the problems that people will face in the future?
  2. General topics: What is the place of semiotics in the development of literary products? Does semiotics make sense that a known writer, playwright, director, a screenwriter can produce better products?

Turkish researchers can share their studies on sub-fields of semiotics such as law, cinema, architecture, archeology, literature.
